Book Summary
p> The CSIOF Bulletin is published by the Centre for the Study of Islam and Other Faiths, of the Bible College of Victoria. In this second issue of the CSIOF Bulletin, we have gathered a collection of material which covers a wide range of themes, and we have been able to give voice to both Muslim and non-Muslim perspectives on these themes. In the first feature, Stan Thompson points out some of the pitfalls of uncritical interchanging of the terms "Allah" and "God". The two following features by Christof Sauer and Mark Durie take different angles of approach to questions surrounding majority-minority relationships where Islam and Christianity are involved. The final feature by Bernie Power addresses the very current issue of historical and present day relations between Islam and Australia's Aboriginal communities. The past year has witnessed several exciting conferences in Melbourne with some of the most interesting involving progressive Muslims presenting their viewpoints on a range of topics. The reports of two such conferences are supplemented by another conference report focusing on a gathering of ethnic churches in Melbourne. Also offered for the interest of readers are several reviews of recent books addressing Christianity, Islam and Judaism. The Bulletin concludes with reports on several public lectures given at Bible College of Victoria over the last twelve months, also addressing some of the key issues and debates surrounding the engagement between Islam, Christianity, and the West.
