Book Summary
The main objective of this work was to find out whether Jewish eschatology underwent major changes, or at least significant developments, during the 'classical rabbinic' period (Mishna, Talmud, ancient Midrashim). We assumed the existence of two eschatological worlds: that of the afterworld and that of the resurrection. It is not always evident, whether a text stresses the first or the second interpretation. The determination of differentiation criteria allowed us (to a certain extent) to divide the texts among both worlds, and to carry out two distinct studies; the first devoted to the resurrection and the second to the afterworld. The detailed research on both worlds was then incorporated within the wider theoretical frameworks of anthropology (dualistic and monistic schools) and cosmology (placement of heaven and hell within the cosmic order).
